Roots and use: The term tasbeeh is based on in the Arabic root of sīn-bāʾ-ḥāʾ (س-ب-ح). The meaning of the root word when written means to glorify. 'Tasbeeh' is an irregular derivation from subhan, which is the first word of the constitutive sentence of the first third of the canonical form (see below) of tasbeeh.
Tasbeeh or Misbaha is a set or string of 33, 66, or 99 prayer beads used in Islamic tradition as a counting aid in reciting the 99 titles of Allah. This repetition of words is known as dhikr, a ritual prayer. Dhikr not only resonates with specific words, but also accommodates the recitation of the Quran, spreading kindness, and speaking good of others. Any good deed with the right intention is a form of Dhikr.
